Meet the Author

Lisa Brotz is a Wisconsin-based author, humane educator, and lifelong advocate for animals.

A third-generation equestrian with a passion for Icelandic horses, she lives on Northstar Farm with her fiancée and seventeen animals, whose personalities and antics often inspire her work. In fact, other than an alien showing up, much of the Camp Gallivant trilogy grew directly from real experiences on her hobby farm.

When she is not writing, Lisa can be found walking the dogs, horseback riding, practicing yoga, cooking plant-based meals, or dreaming up scavenger hunts and new adventures.

Shaped by rural life in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and inspired by the landscapes and seasonal rhythms of the Great Lakes region, Lisa creates restorative stories that blend the fantastical with the familiar, inviting readers to discover the magic woven through nature and everyday life.

The Journey Behind Willoughby’s Way and the Seeds of Spring

Every book has a story behind the story, and Willoughby’s Way and the Seeds of Spring is no exception.

The journey began in 2017 when Lisa Brotz began working with writing coach Romy Sommer. Through encouragement, guidance, and a shared belief in the power of storytelling, an early idea gradually grew into a manuscript.

Along the way, Lisa found a home at Gemini Writers Studio, where Julie Cameron and Eva Fox Mate foster a thriving community of writers. Their mentorship, feedback, and encouragement helped shape both the manuscript and Lisa’s growth as an author. The supportive environment they have created continues to inspire writers at every stage of their journey.

Through Gemini Writers Studio, Lisa was introduced to Jayme Mansfield of Cowgirl Publishing, whose leadership and expertise helped guide the book through the publishing process.

Editorial contributions during the manuscript’s development were provided by Lisa Rao, Julie Cameron, and Eva Fox Mate.

The book’s final form was brought to life through the creative talents of designer Asya Blue and illustrator Deidre Henkelman. Together, their work helped transform the story of Willoughby into the book readers hold in their hands today.

While writing often begins in solitude, books are built through community. Willoughby’s Way and the Seeds of Spring reflects the encouragement, expertise, and generosity of many people who helped bring Willoughby’s journey into the world.
